A summer spent at Hanlan’s Point

You may or may not be aware but each summer the Toronto Islands are host to one of the biggest underground sound events in Toronto, Electric Island.

Electric Island is a celebration of house and techno talent, with DJs from around the world. This summer there were 5 different events hosted to end each long weekend (more than each year that has passed thus far).
The dates included; Victoria Day, Canada Day, Civic Holiday, and back to back events on September 04 and Labour Day.
Each of these days brought a plethora of talented artists and impressive performances, some of my favourites included:
  • Gui Boratto – a Brazilian artist
  • Guy Gerber – an Israeli artist
  • Justin Martin – a producer from San Francisco
  • Loco Dice – a German artist
  • Paul Kalkbrenner – a live act artist from Germany
  • Sven Väth – a German artist
  • Tale of Us – a duo from Germany.
All of the artists produce either techno, electronica, house, trance or combination of them.
There is more than music though, there are performers, different local vendors selling their products, and people dancing from day to night. Not only are we lucky enough to have events like this  each summer, but the crowd it brings out is also great in its own way. Through these events over the last three years I have met many different types of people, each bringing their own flair to the island.
The events are presented by Embrace & Platform, and Coda. The sponsors for Electric Island are Sapporo, Strongbow, Snapple Spiked, and Venom Vodka.
For me, Electric Island gives me a feeling of home, it’s
my city,  my friends, and some of the most amazing music happening live.
Will I see you next summer on the island?
