Me in the SMT Production of Annie |
I
have always been a woman of ambition - I always had a plan.
I was going to be an actress and a singer; whether it be on film, television or stage. Julie Andrews was my inspiration and my dream was to have a career like her.
The hills were alive and so was I.
I was going to be an actress and a singer; whether it be on film, television or stage. Julie Andrews was my inspiration and my dream was to have a career like her.
The hills were alive and so was I.
There
was no doubt in my mind.
In a nutshell, my plan was move to California, get married, have kids, and be an entrepreneur with a million dollars in my bank account.
In a nutshell, my plan was move to California, get married, have kids, and be an entrepreneur with a million dollars in my bank account.
Did I mention, that I was
going to do all of this by 25?
I have no idea how I came up
with this plan, but at 25 years old the reality was that I had just broken up with my boyfriend and I was drowning my sorrows in pints of SuperKid ice cream; gaining 30 pounds.
The most important things that I learned from these powerful women were;
- I am enough.
- I cannot make anyone else happy; only me.
Here are a few tidbits from my goal setting toolkit:
We still want and need to set goals, but we need to shift
how we think about them. We need to
leave room for change and not be bound by them.
2. Give yourself
permission to make mistakes.
We are not perfect. We are human and mistakes will happen,
so use mistakes as a learning tool.
Be confident and trust that everything will work out.
Celebrate all of your accomplishments not matter how small they
are; even if it’s just a happy dance.
The
truth is many years later, I got married, had two beautiful daughters and I
still feel lost sometimes, but I am hopeful.
Do
you think goal setting works?
Key words:
Stress
Goals
Lost
Dreams
Life
Change
I wish I could share this a million times! So relatable. No one ever talks about what happens if/when things don't go according to plan. Great read, I feel inspired :)
ReplyDeleteThank you. :) I wish that more people were candid about their life experiences. I am glad that you feel inspired.

DeleteLove this! I am, also,a planner but planning for the "just in case" moments are almost always not considered. This is a great reminder. There are so many people that could use this for their own guidelines. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI love how honest you are in your blog. It's always nice to know that you aren't the only one when things don't turn out how you thought. Great read-- very inspirational!

ReplyDeleteAs someone who has struggled finding the right path for themselves after high school, it's reassuring to know I'm not alone. It might take a few tries to get to a good place, but above all else keep happiness in mind.
ReplyDeleteWow, such a pleasant read. Thanks for reminding all of us that its okay to take things at our own pace.
ReplyDeleteReally enjoyed your post! It isn't an easy thing to talk about sometimes but I hope I remember this when I'm trying to figure out my life, which is often.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing Natashia. As someone who struggles with some of these goals already, this was a really good reminder that it's okay to not have everything figured out. Very interesting also to see where your path is now compared to where you wanted to go! I suppose our own life experiences are good stories for when we're older and wiser! If I could add one more your list, it would be to 5. Breathe! The most important thing to do any stressful circumstance. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is so relatable! Glad to know I'm not the only one who is fumbling around trying to figure things out. Thank you for sharing!
