Exploring Canadian National Parks

Exploring Canadian National Parks
By Ida Berg, 23rd November 2018

As a part of my exchange journey in Toronto I’ve been exploring three beautiful and surreal National Parks in Canada getting away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. The first trip planned was in Algonquin Provincial Park, a perfect place for canoeing and experiencing the fall colours in the maple leaf trees. I went on the trip with Overhang Adventures who truly made a huge effort for it to be a memory for life.

A group of friends and I planned a camping trip on our own, driving through Alberta from Banff National Park to Jasper National Park. Both parks give you endless opportunities to explore the outdoors whether going for canoeing, hiking or skiing.

A recommendation from my trip is to definitely have a car if you go off-season. By following the Icefields Parkway from Banff to Jasper you come across so many crystal blue Lakes, Rocky Mountains, glaciers and if you’re very lucky, wildlife.

Crystal clear water at Peyto Lake

Some of my favourite places during the trip were the:
  • Valley of Five Lakes' Turkish blue water
  • Peyto Lake's beautiful view
  • Johnston Canyon's great hiking trail
  • Lake Louise's mountain view

The places were amazing, allowing beginners to enjoy the outdoors with shorter hiking trails giving everyone the fresh feeling from the nature.
My trips only lasted up to five days, which gave a limited time to visit all the places. I wish there was time enough to explore the rest, as the opportunities seemed endless. At last, I am grateful for the opportunity to even go there.

Have you been on any outdoor trips around the world that you would recommend? I will definitely make myself a bucket list for more places to explore.

  2. I love Algonquin Provincial Park. It's relatively close by and there's so much to do there. I visited over the summer and spent days canoeing and hiking. I especially loved the Oxtongue River Park that is right before the entrance of Algonquin on Highway 60.

  3. I was in Algonquin in October for my birthday and I absolutely love it! If you ever get the chance you should go to Killarney! The lakes are gorgeous there!
